Red face Has Anyone else done this, or am I insane?

Ok, Ive been playing Guild Wars for a little over 9 months now. It was the first MMO type game I'd ever tried, and to say the least, I still love the game.
Anyways, I've had one main character who took up 95% of my playing time. I finished Prophecies and had done some of Factions and almost all of Nightfall with it. Well, lately I was getting easily bugged by things such as my characters name and appereance, the type of 15k armor he had, just little things like that. So, last night, when I was extremely tired, I deleted it.
Almost 400 hours and 1 million Guild Wars gold down the drain.
So, after making a new character of the same class with a diffrent name and looks, I have to wonder...am I insane? Has anyone else ever had an experience remotley like this?

If so, please respond. My guild thinks I'm an idiot and I would pretty much have to agree.

I have rerolled characters, but would never reroll a main that has completed every game, has 15k armor, and 1 million gold (which btw, why not storage it?). But at the end of the day, it is a game. It is meant to be played and to have fun, not build a legend. If you enjoy remaking him, his new look and his new name, then who loses? Also, why not just make it in a different slot?

I slavaged the 15k, and I meant a million overall on all the armor, customized weapons etc.

I had a monk who had completed the game and had FoW armor. I proceeded to delete him and remake with a new name only. No customized weps though. It was worth it though honestly. I couldn't stand the name of the first monk... *shivers with dread*

Why do you need an entire forum to tell you that you are an idiot? Closure?

Some people like the new character feeling. The feeling you get when you start a game is something incredible, Pre-sear syndrome.

You can't get that feeling if your char is having help all along, it's gotta be a "I'm going it alone against all monsters" kinda thing.

I understand what you did, however I don't have the courage to do it myself

No, you are not insane.

I deleted my ele with 15k armor (before factions when I actually bought pieces 1 by 1, alternated between monk and this guy here) with black (expensive, even though I had found the bottle) gloves. This was because I wanted to make a mesmer and also wanted to keep my necro and warrior around (neither had 15k though).

I didn't like the feel of playing as an ele anyway so I guess it's about having fun playing with the char. I deleted said Mesmer half a year later because he didn't look like I wanted. Then I tried to make a new one and found I couldn't make a mesmer I liked. Now he just wears masks all the time.

Oh, btw... my avatar beats your avatar Beast

I think now with the ability to have so many slots its a bit silly, I don't delete characters unless they are new and i'm going for survivor.

Before the ability to get ectra slots it made sense to reroll if you wanted different characters, with 4 slots and 6 professions it was necessary. now with 8 slots minimum, and the ability to have more I don;t think anyone needs to reroll their main character,

dont even like the idea of rerolling a minor one as it prevents birthday presents on it

its a matter of choice though really, if you feel its stupid then it is, if you don;t care about the time and stuff then its not

No OP you are not insane, maybe a bit overzealous, but not insane.
Lots of people have deleted their main toons (seems mostly for the name, per this thread), and lots of people have deleted toons that have finished all three campaigns (for whatever reason)....so dont feel insane, now you have a chance to do it all over again and again.. (personally I just get more slots and ignore the toons I am unhappy with--or they become mules for everyone else's sh-- stuff) ...
as long as you kept the plat and such I would have no remorse.

They're valid enough reasons to delete a character. If you're not happy with him, his name, his armor, etc., why not? Do what makes the game enjoyable, regardless of what others think.

I deleted all eight of my PvE toons a few weeks ago, including my monk who had People Know Me, FoW armor and over eight million experience.

I have a mesmer... my fourth prophecies character. First one got deleted within a month, other two are still kicking, but this mesmer.... I really didn't like her face (when compared with the many optioins available, it just seemed so vacant). So, I made a new mesmer... but i didn't delete the old one. Not until I got the new one to some place I was happy with it. So, yes, I've remade a chracter simply because i didn't like the look of her. And it was well over a year old.

As for names, The new name is much like the old. I choose my character's names very carefully, because i know that ppl will be calling me by that name in the game.

I've deleted characters for their name or looks before, but luckily I came to the conclusion I didn't like them fairly early in their lives, before I'd spent more than a couple of evenings on each one. I'm more likely to delay making a new character because I dither so much about what to call them etc...

But why?

I understand people deleting old chars because of little dislikes -although it sucks to be you and find out about those dislikes only after so much time- and redoing them. For the lack of char slots I would not delete chars unless they were really not that well developed.

There's a thin line between geniality and insanity. Never make such a choice when you're tired though.

What I remember of this thread so far is that most of the time name changes are the reason. I hope Anet sees this thread and makes another brilliant move by making name changing possible.
